If you don't have an Office 365 account, you can join our Skype for Business meetings as a guest through your Web Browser by installing the Web App plugin. This guide will show you the steps you need to take to do this. Please note that you will need to have Administrator rights on your PC to perform these steps. You will also need a microphone and speakers (preferably earphones) to join an online meeting. We also like you to have a webcam so that we can see you.

Live audio and video streams are very susceptible to data rate problems that may not be noticeable when browsing websites or downloading emails. If these functions are delayed slightly it doesn’t really matter, but if audio or video feeds are delayed, you can get jitter, freezes and pixilation problems. If you have a problem with the quality of your connection, you may loose packets of data, which can cause your meeting connection to drop out.

The speed and contention of your Internet connection and the health of your computer. Malware, memory and disk speed can all cause problems with Internet connectivity that could cause audio/video problems. You may also have problems if you have a wireless connection to your router.

Due to the distributed nature of our students and staff, in an effort to reduce inconvenience and our carbon footprint, the college has adopted a policy of online meetings using Microsoft Skype for Business (formerly called Lync). You don’t need to have a Skype for Business  account to join our meetings.
